The company is now focusing its efforts on "Bone and Joint Diseases," "Respiratory Diseases," and "Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases" as three target categories for product development and services. Bone and Joint Diseases

Anti-osteoporosis drugs with established efficacy

Teijin Pharma markets two anti-osteoporosis drugs proven to help improve QOL for patients with osteoporosis, a condition affecting 12 million people in Japan. The first of the two is Onealfa®, an agent developed in-house. The second is Bonalon®, an in-licensed alendronate (anti-osteoporosis drug).

In addition to pharmaceuticals for the treatment of osteoporosis, Teijin Pharma also markets products in the medical devices category for bone and joint healthcare. One of the higher-profile products is SAFHS®, a bone fracture therapeutic device that works by ultrasonic stimulation.

Respiratory Diseases

Pharmaceuticals and medical devices to support patients with chronic respiratory diseases

Teijin Pharma provides various pharmaceuticals for patients with respiratory diseases and disturbances. Its two mainstay respiratory drugs are Mucosolvan®, an airway mucolytic agent, and Alvesco®, an inhaled steroid for asthma.

Teijin Pharma is now recognized as one of the top brands for Home Oxygen Therapy (HOT) services. Teijin's Hi-Sanso™ oxygen concentrators for HOT now command a large share of the market. The company also provides non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) devices such as NIPNASAL®Ⅲ, a mechanical support for ventilation via a mask.

Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases

Well-established pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and the ongoing development of new drugs

Among its various products for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, Teijin Pharma has launched Tricor® and Solmiran® as therapies to alleviate abnormal lipid metabolism, as well as Antup®, a percutaneous tape preparation for dilating coronary arteries in patients with angina or myocardial infarction. Teijin's research on new drugs for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases is also active. TMX-67, a novel anti-gout agent, is positioned as a strategic product for global marketing. TMX-67 has not yet been marketed in Japan; however it has been licensed overseas under strengthened partnerships with companies such as Ipsen in France, SK Chemicals in Korea, and Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America.

In the medical device field,Teijin has launched AutoSet™ CS, an adaptive-servo ventilator expected to have beneficial effects for patients with chronic heart failure complicated with decreased ventilation volume.
