Teijin Pharma is enhancing its presence and competitiveness at the global level
Strategy for Advancing into International Markets
Within a climate of flourishing technological and capital alliances across borders in the global pharmaceutical industry, Teijin Pharma continues to enhance its presence by aggressively developing operations in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Teijin runs R&D locations in London and New York and has built many alliances with overseas enterprises. Backed by its experiences as an international partner in business, the company is now orchestrating a full-fledged marketing expansion in the global arena.
Expansion of global operations
In 2008, Teijin Group acquired Associated Healthcare Systems, Inc., a New-York-based provider of home healthcare with competitive advantages in markets in the northeastern US. Months later, it acquired Braden Partners L. P., a major player active in eighteen US states centered in the Middle West. Teijin Pharma has built its marketing network in North America in short bursts, with acquisitions like these. We are working not only to enlarge our market share in regions where we already have footholds, but also to break into the regions where Associated Healthcare Systems, Inc. and Braden Partners L. P. have not yet reached. Our goal is to expand the businesses we now run actively in Japan into other parts of the world. These overseas companies will be strategically reinforcing their competitive advantages while taking in new technologies and business models adopted in Japan.
In the Pharmaceuticals business, Teijin Pharma has found footholds for providing and gathering drug information to promote its products in China, mainly in and around Shanghai. In coming months we will be pursuing the opportunity to distribute our novel anti-drug TMX-67 in China and other Asian countries.
Aggressive alliance in Japan and overseas
Teijin has had experience in licensing pharmaceuticals to and from other manufacturers and marketers in global alliances. Laxoberon® and Mucosolvan®, two keystone agents for Teijin, are licensed from Boehringer Ingelheim in Germany, and Bonalon® is licensed from Merck & Co. in the US. TMX-67, a novel anti-drug developed in-house, is licensed out to the companies: Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Inc., Ipsen in France, SK Chemicals in Korea, Astellas Pharma Taiwan, Inc., Astellas Pharma China, Inc. and Astellas Pharma Hong Kong Co., Ltd..
Teijin Pharma will be pushing ahead more aggressively than ever in its technical partnerships with overseas pharmaceutical companies and the licensing of products. Clinical trials and approval filings are now underway for several of the agents we have developed in-house. Collaborations with key companies will help us to bring these agents to market as swiftly as possible.
